Why microchip your pet?
Collars and tags have limits. Tags become scratched and unreadable over time. Collars can slip off, break, or be removed. If your pet gets lost and is found without visible identification, there’s no straightforward way for anyone to reach you.
A microchip removes that uncertainty. It provides a permanent ID that stays with your pet for life and requires no batteries or maintenance. Lost pets with registered microchips are reunited with their owners at far higher rates than those without. It’s one of the most effective steps you can take in your pet’s preventive care.

A universal scanner reads the chip’s ID number in seconds. That number is checked against the national registry, and the registered owner is contacted directly. The system works at any facility with a scanner — veterinary clinics, animal shelters, pet stores, and boarding facilities all use compatible equipment. If your pet is found anywhere, the path home runs through that network.

What is a pet microchip?
The chip does not contain GPS technology and cannot track your pet’s location. It stores a unique identification number that, when scanned, is cross-referenced against a national microchip registry to connect your pet back to you.
How pet microchipping works
After the procedure, registration is required. The chip itself is just a number — it only connects back to you once it’s been entered into a national registry alongside your current contact information. Without that step, a scanner can read the chip but nobody can find you. We’ll walk you through registration at your appointment. If your address or phone number changes at any point, update your registry information promptly.
